When you open your mouth does a foul smell come from it? If yes is the answer, you need to do something about it. There are some methods for bad breath control that can be effective. We have listed some of the below for your convenience.

Oral Care

The first thing to do when trying to remedy a foul breath is to make sure your oral care is sufficient enough. Are you brushing your teeth twice a day? Do you do it long enough to get the plaque? Also make sure to floss to remove plaque. Special toothpastes and mouthwashes can be used to add even more freshness to the breath. Also a tongue scraper should be used to remove bacteria from the tongue, especially the back area. This is the area of the mouth that is known to have a lot of bacteria.

No Smoking

Smoking can make your breath smell like cigarettes or cigars. If you want to do bad breath control here, no smoking should be done. Of course, this will be healthier for your lungs, mouth and other body parts too.

Smelly Foods

When wanting fresh breath, watch what you eat. Many foods can cause an odor. Onions and garlic are two bad guys here. Some onions are extremely strong smelling cooked or uncooked. Garlic has sulfur compounds in it that even seep into your lungs, so this food’s odor really hangs around for awhile. Foods with spices like spaghetti sauce, chili and salsa could also contribute to bad breath. Beverages like coffee, liquor and wine can leave and after smell too.

Health Checks

Have your health checked out for bad breath control. You could have an underlying medical condition creating your problem. Diabetes, sinus conditions and throat infections are just a few of the health problems that will affect the breath.

Dental Checkups

You should have dental checkups to make sure you do not have any gum disease or tooth problems, which could contribute problem breath. Teeth can have cavities can be big breeding grounds for bacteria to grow. The dentist can even use a Halimeter to pinpoint which area of the mouth your bad breath comes from.

Avoid Dry Mouth

Make sure your mouth does not get too dry. Drinking the right about of water daily will help with this. When the mouth gets too dry the environment is ideal for bacteria to grow in and the sulfur compounds it produces. Some medications can cause dry mouth along with some health conditions too. Check with your doctor in these cases.

Baking Soda

Rinsing your mouth with a solution of water and baking soda will help neutralize odors in your breath. This is a great remedy to use for bad breath control. Just take an 8-ounce glass of water and dissolve 2 or 3 teaspoons of baking soda in it. Swish this mixture around and spit it out. Repeat a couple of times for maximum effect. Also there are toothpastes with baking soda in them to use on your teeth.
